HDMI link but black screen output only

Trying to install my second PS1 Digital. HDMI gets a link (solid blue led) but the screen is just black.
Putting the PS1 Digital into my first modified PU-18 with PS1 Digital (basically swapping the PS1 Digital PCBs) the black screen follows the PCB and not the PU-18.

Under full disclosure I did have to remove the GPU flex (hot air) and put some kapton tape over the vias to remove the shorts.
Wondering if that might have damaged the PS1 Digital somehow. Seems likely; but not sure which components to check on the PS1 Digital to get it working again?

Current plan is to get a replacement flex (messed up the Audio Flex) and make sure the working PS1 Digital works in both PU-18s I have.

Please try to switch the output resolution using this controller combo:
L2, R2, start, circle, triangle
This switches between VGA and 1080p output.
Some TVs and certain HDMI switches seem to dislike the default VGA signal (although they should per HDMI specification)

OMG! Thank you so much! That actually worked!
That should probably be added to the troubleshooting section on the install guide.

Yes, I agree. This will be added to the troubleshooting section. There is also a small bug in the OSD, if you have switched to 1080p with the button combo, you can't select 1080p as default in the OSD. Workaround at the moment is to select a different resolution first and then change it back to 1080p in the OSD. (Or use the web interface to change the default resolution)

The web ui is a really cool affect ~ however there is a reference to DCHDMI in the setup options.
Off topic: Feature request for a Reset to Defaults for all parameters including the wifi setup (maybe blank it out)? would be nice.
Thanks for all the work put into these projects.

Dammit! Wish id checked here. I had the same thing! I thought it was a bad solder job on the gpu flex. I didnt know about the button combo. I tried to rework it and ended up introducing a short on the 3.3v line. No LEDs and the PSU squealed when powrred on. The way to fix it was to take a hot air tool to the flex and remove it. I now humbly await my order of a spare flex kit. Debating on whether to send it off to a pro modder service still. A DCdigital was a cake walk but damn these ps1 pins are tiny.

Good point, I'll think about adding this to the web interface. At the moment you can use the setup command in the web ui and use one space for each setting to reset it back to it's default state. You also get full control over all settings, if you're using xhdmi-tools. Together with the Installer Access Point (IAP) mode, this is ideal for installers.

I'm encountering the same problem. HDMI gets a link (solid blue led) but the screen is just black. I've tried the button combination but nothing happened (using a PS2 conttoller). I've tried on a few monitors and LED tvs it's still the same. Is it because I'm using a PS2 controller. I've also installed an Xstation but the Xstation doesn't work. Now I can't see anything on my screen.

The controller should be ok.
Do you have the XStation pcb attached to the ribbon cable? It needs to be attached and working for the PS1 to boot properly. Does analog video still work?
Do the leds work on the XStation?

The Xststion PCB is not attached to the ribbon cable 🤦🤦🤦 and the analog video doesn't work. I'll try to plug in the Xstation ribbon cable first and see the result. Thanks for the reply. Will update if it works.

It works!!! But I still can't acess both PS1 digital and Xstation menu. I've tried the button combination on the controller without any sucess. I'm stuck at the memory card menu now.

The screen shot is from the HDMI output?
Recheck the flex connection at the controller connector?

Yes the screenshot is from the HDMI output. I need to recheck the flex for the controller. And I also need to figure out how to run the Xstation. Do you have any idea why the xststion doesn't boot?

Thanks. I probably need to reflow the Xstation PCB. I've watched your videos on youtube. 👍
In one install I lost continuity through the via on the edge of the board (CD limit switch) even though it had continuity to other places connected directly on the same side. It should also have continuity to the chip above after going through a jumper trace on the top side. If you don’t have continuity to that chip the console will think that the simulated ODE laser has never properly homed (returned to center and backed off slightly to break contact with the limit switch), thus, it will never try to focus and spin up the emulates disc. The Xstation will never load even with the lid closed.

When I found this I just used kynar to restore the via/jumper and it worked great. In really didn’t do so much scraping and still can’t fathom how it was enough to damage the via. I have a fiberglass scratch pen so I always just get things started with my Xacto blade and finish off with the pen.
